"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people."
I think we all know how important laughter is in our lives. Laughter is the best remedy when we are feeling down. Laughter is good for our mental and physical well-being. So, let's lift up our spirits with laughter! We are so busy in our lives that we forget to laugh often. We forget to include humor in our daily hectic lives. We have to make the commitment to LAUGH every day, many times a day - a good belly laugh, a good laugh that even our insides will hurt. It will really help us relieve some of our stress and it's been scientifically proven that it helps our immune system and helps us heal better and faster. Did you see the movie "Patch Adams"? If not, I highly recommend it. This wonderful doctor has introduced laughter in his practice of medicine and has helped so many people in his career (check www.patchadams.org).
My advice to everyone is: watch a good funny show or funny video or DVD every day (if possible); like "Who's line is it anyway?" - with Drew Carey or any other good comedy (re-runs of "I Love Lucy" or "Seinfeld", etc.) I'm sure you have some favorite great shows and movies that really make you laugh; so, watch them! My kids love SpongeBob, and truthfully me too! I think it is a great cartoon - even if some of the stuff may seem silly, it really makes us laugh and have a good time. You are never too old to watch cartoons... You could also read a funny book, or think about something funny that happened to you or a friend - and LAUGH!
One of the many good things of being a Mom, is that I can watch a lot of so-called "Kids' Shows" and not even feel bad. I watch them with my kids, so it's O.K. I can even go to a playground with my youngest (Natalie) and go in the swings (I love them! I feel like a little child again when I'm swinging high - I don't like the slides though, I'm a scaredy-cat). Try to find things that are fun to do - but not dangerous - and enjoy them. Now, don't find enjoyment in making fun of people - that's not right. You don't like when others make fun of you! Also, laugh at yourself sometimes; we all have our little particularities (peculiarities, eccentricities and idiosyncrasies) - and it's O.K. to make fun of them.
Try to go out with fun people too, people that make you laugh. Stay away from negative and angry persons - that just drag you down with them and make you feel sad and depressed. There are a lot of "toxic people" out there that drain your energy. Just imagine your reaction if you meet a comedian like Robin Williams or Jim Carey, wouldn't that make you feel good instantly? People like them lift up your spirit right away; so they are great examples for all of us.
When you are happy you radiate confidence and magnetism, you will attract many people. If you are angry and have a negative attitude, you reflect unhappiness and people won't like to be around you. It's as simple as that. Of course we all have our bad moments -moments of anger, sadness, grief, etc.; but these should be temporary states of being. We have to try our best to become happy people - even when others think we are crazy to be so happy! And happiness is different for everyone. You have to find the things that make you happy!
Practice thinking HAPPY thoughts, peaceful thoughts, positive thoughts… Get rid of negative attitudes and negative thinking - they will only create MISERY. Happiness and misery are choices. What do you choose?
"Be enthusiastic about everything you do…"
"Pain is inevitable, misery is optional."
"Include humor in every aspect of your life."
"Laughter can help us heal our deepest wounds."
"Don't take yourself and your problems so seriously. Your problems are NOT who you are."
"Learn to laugh at yourself, before anyone else does."
"We grow closer to people when we laugh WITH them. But never laugh AT them - no one likes to be made fun of."
"Don't let angry and disillusioned people make you cynical."
"The only person you can count on for your happiness is yourself."
"We create through thoughts, so we need to concentrate very strongly on positive thoughts."
"Never forget that all the enthusiasm you need is in your mind. Let it out - let it live - let it motivate you!"
"Sometimes life does seem like a constant struggle; but with a positive attitude you can make things happen, you can change your world. You can rise above all the misery around you."
"When you are happy you are healthy and when you are healthy you are happy."
"It takes discipline to be positive. Cultivate discipline in your life."
"Don't worry ... be happy."
